JNU Violence

I was at Shaheen Bagh, when the violence erupted at the university. Since Ravish Kumar had made a grand entrance at SB, there was no way to leave, until he did and the crowd dispersed as it ran after him. That’s the power of journalism, he was mobbed the way Big B is. I shit you, not!

On the flip side, as as soon I arrived at JNU, there was utter chaos. The ABVP, guys were discussing how to hurt an NDTV reporter. I left within half an hour, as I couldn’t go in or go live. Sat in my car, edited the video on my phone, uploaded it and tried to rush back.

But to no avail, all the routes had been closed down, even the inner one from the colony I had talked earlier. So I decided to walk. Unfortunately, as soon as I got off the car, there were a group of men who noticed me, as they walked past. Noting down my car number, they walked ahead, I strolled behind, cautiously. Suddenly, one turned around and started walking towards me. ‘ Aap Shaheen Bagh jati ho?’, he asked. ‘ Nahin! ‘ I said. ‘ nahin’, he repeated after me, nodded his head and started walking again.

I walked for a while behind them, on the empty street and then the gut said, ‘turn back, now!’. So, I came back home, trusting the voice that’s always kept me safe.
